Aika Matka, the new long length video by Sirpa Skateboards

Aika Matka, the new long length video by Sirpa Skateboards

Text by Therese Österlund
Picture by Oona Markkanen, skating Susanna Suomi

Sirpa skateboards is an all female skateboard brand from Finland. Last December, they premiered their first ever skate movie project: Aika Matka.

Aika Matka means 'timetravel' or/and 'what a journey' in Finnish and it describes the way the team has experienced the filming, editing, tour life, skating and brand developing under the last few years since the brand was first founded in 2020.

Their first premiere got a warm welcome and the movie was also part of a film festival in Finland last month.

The movie is filmed by the girls themselves, and their friends, without any real previous experience of filming skateboarding. It has been a learning journey on the board but also behind the lense.

Sirpa Skateboards wishes to not only promote and support the female skateboard scene but also all the female sub genres that can possibly be supported through the skateboard scene: photography, filming, editing, art/graphics and music, without being discriminating or totally excluding males or non-binaries. Up until now the Sirpa team has consisted of five team members but the family is steadily growing and the next movie project is already under works. The Finnish female skateboard scene is flourishing and this movie is only the tip of the iceberg.

Movie is edited by Ines Särkkä.
